I am delighted to welcome Jenny Beckford, CEO of Greater Elevation, to the Single Mums Business Network!โWe met Jenny this year as she was nominated for (and won!) Coach of the Year at the SMBN Awards – she is an absolute delight, with her own incredible story of being a young single mum to twins and how she triumphed and went on to help so many others with the tools she had learned.
Here is what Jenny says;
I had my twin daughters at the age of 23 which is the age that my daughters are now.
When the twins turned 6 years old, I became a single mum, I was adamant that I would never be a single mum as I came from a single parent family and saw how hard my mum worked and how much she did for me, and my brother and it was not easy.
Becoming a single mum made me feel guilty, I started to see myself as a failure. ![]()
I missed having someone there to share the good and bad experiences with. ![]()
Self-doubt started to set in I questioned myself am I doing a good job with bringing up my daughters? ![]()
From the day that my daughters were born, literally I put them first which is not a bad thing as when you are a mum that is what you do, you love and care for your children. However, I always took a back seat.
Fast forward to a few years, I decided to sign up to go to university, which I have always wanted to do I managed to graduate and achieved a 2.1 when I was 40! At the time my daughters were studying for their GCSES at school and passed all their GCSEโs and exceeded their expected grades!
3 years later when I was 43 was the turning point for me I went on a self-development journey, I invested in my very first Life-Coach Laura Liles, I enrolled into her coaching academy and brought all of her programmes, I then started to invest in more coaches, mentors, brought books, went to seminars I really started to work on myself.
After investing in myself I started to achieve the following:
Optimum health
Started to take responsibility for the results in my life.
Started to attract new people on the same journey as me who became accountability partners and good friends.
My self-belief increased.
I started to believe that I deserved love and respect.
Set up my own Life-Coaching business.
Track my finances.
Overcome the fear of speaking publicly.
I let go of the faรงade that I had been displaying to people.
No more a people pleaser!
So, on my journey I learnt the following:
Age does not define a person
Mindset is key -what you think determines what you believe about yourself.
Be you let go of the mask let people connect with the real, genuine authentic you.
To push past the fear -you just got to feel the fear and do it anyway!
Learn to love yourself.
I have over 10 yearsโ experience of working in multiple roles (such as a Careers Adviser in secondary schools) and supporting youth and I am very passionate when it comes to helping them to achieve their goals and helping them to create a brighter future, and very excited to be able to support the youth and their families.
